Downtown Calgary: what to do and how to get around

Food, riverside walks, museums and events. Here’s a local’s short list, and how to get downtown from our homes.

Our downtown short list

Stephen Avenue (8 Ave SW): a pedestrian street lined with restaurants and patios.
Prince’s Island Park and the Peace Bridge: river views and easy walking paths.
East Village and the RiverWalk: the Central Library, Studio Bell (National Music Centre) and riverside cafés.
Calgary Tower: city views all the way to the Rockies on a clear day.
Kensington, 17 Avenue SW and Inglewood: independent shops, coffee and some of the city’s best restaurants.
Calgary Zoo: just east of downtown, great with kids.

CTrain: the Red and Blue lines both run through downtown along 7 Avenue, and the downtown stretch is free to ride.
Parking: most downtown parking is paid by app or at the meter. Many visitors park at a CTrain station and ride in.
Walking and biking: the river pathway network connects downtown, Kensington, East Village and Inglewood.
